Orioles Match MLB Record in Dominant Victory Over Blue Jays

The Baltimore Orioles tied an MLB record by hitting five sacrifice flies in a single game during their 16-4 win against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Baltimore Orioles tied an obscure record on Tuesday in a dominating 16-4 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays (box score), the first game of a doubleheader. The O’s became the fourth team since 1901 to record five sacrifice flies in a single game. They also hit four home runs, showing their ability to elevate the baseball.

Outfielders Tyler O’Neill and Cedric Mullins both notched a sacrifice fly in the first inning, giving Baltimore a quick 2-0 lead. Mullins added another sac fly in the third, while Ramón Urías contributed his own, putting the Orioles ahead 4-1. The final sacrifice fly was delivered by Jackson Holliday in the eighth inning.

The previous teams with five sacrifice flies in a game were the 2008 Seattle Mariners, the 2006 Colorado Rockies, and the 1988 Mariners.

With this win, the Orioles have achieved at least 11 runs in three of their last four games, totaling 50 runs, which is their highest over a four-game span since 2000 when they scored 52 runs in their final games of that year.

Following their fourth consecutive victory, the Orioles are now at 49-58 for the season. They have been one of the year’s biggest disappointments and are likely to see changes after the trade deadline on July 31. Candidates to move include Mullins, Ramón Laureano, first baseman/outfielder Ryan O’Hearn, and pitchers Charlie Morton and Zach Eflin.
