Spencer Rattler Claims He’s the Top Quarterback in Saints’ Competition

As the battle for the starting quarterback position intensifies for the New Orleans Saints, Spencer Rattler asserts his superiority on the field.

The competition for the starting quarterback position within the New Orleans Saints is heating up. As the preseason draws near, Spencer Rattler feels he has excelled, declaring he has been “the best quarterback on the field.”

First-year head coach Kellen Moore has expressed confidence in allowing all three candidates, including Tyler Shough and Jake Haener, to compete for the role, stating: “We feel good about letting all these guys go for it.”

Rattler stepped up last season, taking over six games after Derek Carr was sidelined by injury, and now he is convinced he is the right choice for the starter role. He stated, “I know what I bring to the table. I was confident in what I can do in this competition. I feel like that brings the best out of me. Throughout this camp, I’ve been the best quarterback on the field.”

Rattler hopes to maintain his momentum and prove to the coaches and his teammates that he deserves to lead the team.

During his rookie season in 2024, Rattler passed for 1,317 yards, recording four touchdowns and five interceptions. Meanwhile, Shough, a second-round pick in the recent draft, is eager to assert himself as a contender, mentioning: “I’m going to go out there and compete, have fun doing it… But I’m going to be the last one standing at the end of the day if I can do something about it.”

Haener, with more experience than both Rattler and Shough, appeared in eight games during the last season, achieving 226 passing yards, one touchdown, and a QB rating of 62.6. He emphasizes camaraderie and respect among the competitors, saying: “We’re all confident in each other’s games. We all respect one another’s games. At the end of the day, we know that coach is going to put the guy that he thinks is going to be able to win the most games on the field.”

The Saints kick off their preseason against the Chargers on August 10, featuring a crucial matchup against the Arizona Cardinals in the season opener.
