Manchester United's Pursuit of Benjamin Sesko: No Need for Pre-Sales
Manchester United is eyeing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig as a top striker target without needing to sell off current players first.
Manchester United is considering making a move for Benjamin Sesko, the RB Leipzig striker, before having to clear out some of their current players. This decision aligns with reports indicating the 22-year-old is United’s main target for enhancing their lineup this summer.
Discussions have reportedly taken place between United and Leipzig regarding Sesko in light of previous negotiations with Arsenal, where Leipzig set a hefty price of more than $100 million. For now, the Bundesliga club appears open to offers around $85 million.
Despite recent spending of $177 million on new players, United might still pursue Sesko, especially now that players like Marcus Rashford have left on loan. The club is looking to offload unwanted players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony.
Finding new homes for these players could unlock significant funds to facilitate the acquisition of Sesko, who has expressed his preference to play in the Premier League despite some interest from Saudi clubs. Newcastle United is also thought to be monitoring the situation, but Sesko reportedly favors a transfer to Old Trafford.
Interestingly, United’s recent financial struggles have arisen from the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, particularly after not qualifying for European competitions last season. This has put pressure on their recruitment strategy, even with their operational revenue exceeding $880 million in 2024.
Lastly, current forward Rasmus Hojlund has made a statement with his performance in a recent friendly, though his future remains uncertain as the transfer window nears its close.
