Canelo Alvarez Set to Face William Scull for Title Unification

The boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez is poised to challenge William Scull in May to unify four divisional titles.

The first fight of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s four-fight deal with Riyadh Season is set, according to Turki Alalshikh. Alalshikh announced on X that Alvarez, who holds the WBA, WBO, and WBC super middleweight titles, will face IBF champion William Scull on May 3.

Scull became champion in October with a unanimous decision win over Vladimir Shishkin. The title was available after the IBF stripped Alvarez in September for failing to face their mandatory challenger, who was Scull. Alvarez instead fought Edgar Berlanga.

“The legend Saul Alvarez Canelo will fight William Scull in undisputed fight in Riyadh on the 3rd of May … if he wins the fight in September will be undisputed again 🔥🥊” — TURKI ALALSHIKH (@Turki_alalshikh)

Cuban-born Scull remains undefeated with 23 wins, nine by stoppage. While he was not initially seen as a strong challenger by Alvarez or fans, the prospect of Alvarez reclaiming undisputed champion status is attractive, especially with larger fights on the horizon in his Riyadh Season deal.

This announcement follows a tumultuous week for Alvarez. Initially, he was rumored to clash with Terence Crawford in September; reports then surfaced of negotiations with influencer Jake Paul for a May encounter. As the deal with Paul fell through, Alalshikh confirmed the deal for a four-fight series with Alvarez, suggesting that the Crawford bout has returned as a possibility for September.

With a win against Scull, the highly anticipated fight with Crawford could have all four world titles on the line.
