Emma Meesseman Returns to the WNBA with the Liberty: A Boost for Their Championship Aspirations

The New York Liberty officially reunited with Emma Meesseman, former WNBA Finals MVP, enhancing their chances for a repeat title. Meesseman’s return marks her first appearance in the league since 2022.

The New York Liberty have officially reunited with Emma Meesseman, a significant addition to their pursuit of a repeat championship. After a hiatus since 2022, Meesseman decided to rejoin the Liberty last month but had to wait for her visa to be processed.

Meesseman is set to debut on Friday against the struggling Connecticut Sun, although coach Sandy Brondello indicated she may not participate immediately: “She only just got here. We’ll get her up to speed. I don’t anticipate her playing tonight.”

According to Liberty GM Jonathan Kolb, “Emma Meesseman’s return to the WNBA is a tremendous moment for our league. The fact that she chose New York speaks volumes about her impact, bringing invaluable championship experience and versatility to our game as we strive for a title in 2025.”

In a recent statement, the team welcomed Meesseman, emphasizing her skills and experience.

The Liberty have recently faced challenges, losing three games in a row without star players. As long as Breanna Stewart remains sidelined due to injury, Meesseman will likely step into a starting role, crucially filling some of the scoring void until Stewart’s return.
