After a successful workout, La’el Collins has joined the Dallas Cowboys according to CBS Sports senior reporter Matt Zenitz.
The 32-year-old Collins was part of the Cowboys from 2015 to 2021 and played the 2022 season for the Cincinnati Bengals. He hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since suffering a severe knee injury during Week 16 of the 2022 season. Following a brief stint on the Cowboys’ practice squad in January 2024, he was released by the Buffalo Bills last summer after not making the initial 53-man roster.
Collins, who did not play during the entire 2020 season due to a neck injury from a car accident, returned to the Cowboys in 2021 but requested a trade that offseason, subsequently being released with three years remaining on his contract. After shedding approximately 25 pounds this offseason, Collins is aiming for a revival of his career with the Cowboys, who seek to recover from a disappointing 2024 season.
If fully fit, Collins could reinforce the Cowboys’ offensive line following an injury to starting left tackle Tyler Guyton. Cowboys coach Brian Schottheimer noted that Asim Richards and Nate Thomas will temporarily step in for Guyton, who is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks.
