Napheesa Collier's Injury Raises Concerns for Lynx Star and MVP Contender After Ankle Roll Against Aces

Napheesa Collier suffered a concerning ankle injury during a decisive victory, throwing her availability for upcoming games into uncertainty.

The Minnesota Lynx had a successful game against the Las Vegas Aces, achieving a significant 111-58 victory, marking the largest road win in WNBA history. However, the highlight was overshadowed by an injury to MVP candidate Napheesa Collier, who exited the court due to a severe ankle roll late in the third quarter.

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve expressed uncertainty about Collier’s status, indicating that updates would come later. The team is scheduled to continue their road trip against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, but it remains unclear if Collier will join them or return home to Minnesota.

During a fast break in the third quarter where the Lynx were leading by 43 points, Natisha Hiedeman attempted a layup, which missed, causing Collier to step on the foot of Alanna Smith, resulting in her ankle rolling severely. Despite attempts to get up with help from Jessica Shepard and A’ja Wilson, the pain was too intense, and Collier had to be assisted off the court.

“It’s too early to say how long Collier may be sidelined, but the early signs were not good,” Reeve commented, acknowledging the unfortunate nature of the injury while hoping for a speedy recovery. With the playoffs approaching in six weeks, there is concern about her ability to return to form in time.

With this victory, the Lynx improved to a record of 24-5, strengthening their lead over the New York Liberty in the hunt for the top seed. Regardless of Collier’s situation, the Lynx retain confidence in their chances to secure homecourt advantage throughout the playoff.
