Major League Soccer is on track to welcome another worldwide star, as Son Heung-min, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur, has reportedly made a verbal agreement to join Los Angeles FC.
Following a decade at Tottenham, Son shared his decision to leave during an emotional press conference. He bid farewell to the club surrounded by teammates, Newcastle players, and nearly 65,000 supporters at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
The pre-season friendly with Newcastle ended in a 1-1 draw, highlighted by Son’s emotional exit in what could be his last match for Tottenham. The 33-year-old team captain was seen in tears as he left the pitch after a long and successful stint.
During his time with the London club, Son found the net 173 times in 454 appearances but was unable to score in the match that many believe could mark his farewell.
Son’s signature goal celebration, known as the “camera” celebration, was demonstrated by teammate Brennan Johnson, who opened the scoring for Tottenham shortly into the game.
