Neymar Suggests Kylian Mbappé Experienced Jealousy Towards Lionel Messi at PSG
Striker Neymar revealed that his former teammate at Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé, felt “a little jealous” following Lionel Messi’s arrival at the French club in August 2021.
In a podcast hosted by World Cup winner Romário, Neymar, who currently plays for Saudi club Al-Hilal, expressed that the presence of significant egos affected PSG’s performance in crucial games.
Neymar’s comments followed Romário’s inquiry about whether Mbappé, who moved to Real Madrid this season, was “annoying.”
“No, he is not. I had my disagreements with him, but he was crucial for us when he joined. I used to call him the golden boy. I always believed he would be one of the best,” Neymar shared.

Neymar noted the good partnership they had, but indicated that after Messi’s arrival, Mbappé displayed signs of jealousy. “He didn’t want to share me with anyone, leading to some conflicts and behavioral changes,” Neymar explained.
Mbappé joined PSG from Monaco in 2017, the same year Neymar transferred from Barcelona in one of the most significant moves in football history.
Both players were brought in as the club aimed to secure its first Champions League title, which remains elusive. Neymar commented on how egos influenced the team’s struggles in important matches, without naming specific individuals.
“While having egos can be beneficial, one must recognize they don’t play alone. It’s essential to have support from teammates. When big egos clash, it often disrupts everything. If no one runs or aids each other, winning becomes impossible.”

Neymar has not dismissed the possibility of returning to Brazil after his contract in Saudi Arabia terminates mid-year.
As of now, neither Mbappé nor Messi have commented on Neymar’s statements.
