Shedeur Sanders seized his chance as the starter for the Cleveland Browns last week, showcasing a solid performance in the first preseason game. Sanders, who was the fifth-round pick, impressed fans and coaches alike while filling in for an injured Dillon Gabriel and Kenny Pickett. Although Sanders led a strong showing, coach Kevin Stefanski has not yet committed to naming him the starter for their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I’m not there on the game itself,” Stefanski stated in a press conference. “By Wednesday or Thursday, I’ll have a better feel for the game and how we’re gonna handle that.”
Despite Sanders’ strong statistics—completing 14 out of 23 passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns—both Gabriel and Pickett have been showing positive progress in their recoveries from injuries, making the quarterback competition intense.
“Dillon can do some 11-on-11,” Stefanski said regarding Gabriel’s progress while noting Pickett still has work to do before participating fully in practices.
As the Browns prepare to face the Eagles, Stefanski emphasized the importance of developing all quarterbacks, planning to continue mixing opportunities for every player in the battle for the starting position.
