Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold expressed gratitude for his time with the San Francisco 49ers, where he served as Brock Purdy’s primary backup. This experience helped refine his skills, leading to a career-best season with the Minnesota Vikings.
Darnold, who was a former No. 3 overall pick in 2018, reflected on a season that provided him with a new perspective as he transitioned from being a starting quarterback for teams like the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers.
While Darnold was hopeful at first to start a few games if Purdy’s health remained uncertain, he only ended up starting one game throughout the 49ers’ journey to the Super Bowl. He later joined the Vikings, leading them to the postseason after J.J. McCarthy suffered an injury.
In March, Darnold signed a three-year contract worth $100 million with the Seahawks, which includes $55 million guaranteed, indicating Seattle’s trust in his capabilities after an impressive 4,319 yards and 35-touchdowns campaign.
“That year was incredible,” Darnold shared, referring back to 2023 while also commending Kyle Shanahan and his coaching team. He enjoyed learning and playing alongside some top-tier players during that time.
Darnold made an impression during preseason by completing all his passes in his debut against the Kansas City Chiefs.
