Ohio Man Arrested After Throwing Sex Toy During WNBA Match

An Ohio man faces charges after tossing a sex toy that struck a young girl during a women's basketball game.

A 32-year-old Ohio man was arrested for throwing a sex toy at a WNBA game between the Dallas Wings and the New York Liberty on August 5, as reported by police. Charles Burgess has been charged with two counts of assault after the object struck a 12-year-old girl.

Burgess’ actions are part of a trend this WNBA season where similar incidents have occurred, causing game delays due to the objects reaching the court. For instance, during a game featuring the Indiana Fever against the Los Angeles Sparks, player Sophie Cunningham narrowly avoided being hit.

No less than several arrests have been made related to these disruptive tactics, prompting the WNBA to enforce strict security measures. According to their statement, fans who throw objects will face immediate ejection and a minimum one-year ban. Additionally, they may face legal action.

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area pose a safety risk for players, officials, and fans,” stated the league. “In accordance with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who throws an object will be ejected and can face arrest and prosecution.”

During a separate incident at an Atlanta Dream game, a Georgia man claimed he thought it would be a joke that would go viral, as reported by ESPN. Nevertheless, players and coaches have expressed their disapproval of such acts.

“This has been going on for centuries. The sexualization of women. This is just the latest iteration of that. It’s not funny, and it should not be a joke for radio shows, in print, or comments,” said Cheryl Reeve, coach of the Minnesota Lynx.
