Lakers Cancel Trade for Mark Williams Due to Medical Concerns
The Los Angeles Lakers' trade for Center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets has been nullified because of undisclosed medical issues.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ trade to acquire center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets was rescinded, as announced by the team Saturday night.
The cancellation occurred because of the failure to satisfy a condition of the trade, with the team providing no further details. However, it was reported that there were multiple issues with Williams’ physical examination, none related to his back.
Williams has played only 85 games over two-plus seasons in the NBA, having missed significant time primarily due to back injuries.
The Lakers had planned to send rookie Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish, along with draft considerations, to acquire Williams, who was seen as a vital addition to their roster following the trade of Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic.
This trade cancellation adds more uncertainty for the Lakers, who have handled a tumultuous roster but still managed to secure five wins out of their last six games.
As of now, the Lakers are left without an established big man, relying on Jaxson Hayes as a starting center, while they struggled with Trey Jemison III stepping into the backup role after just weeks with the team.
