NEW ORLEANS – There may be no player feared more in Super Bowl LIX than Jalen Carter. The Philadelphia Eagles have many capable players, but Carter stands out with his ability to dramatically influence the game.
Carter is the one the Kansas City Chiefs are wary of, capable of changing the dynamics at a moment’s notice. Kansas City is fully aware of what they’re dealing with ahead of the matchup on Sunday.
“He’s a physical specimen,” said All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones. “He’s strong, physical. He’s an unorthodox player. He can take over a game at any moment.”
Carter has quickly risen to become one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL, attaining an All-Pro selection in just his second season. He narrowly trails Jones in pressures during the season, showcasing his prowess with 73 quarterback hits and a notable pressure rate of 11.4%.
However, due to his extraordinary capabilities, Carter is frequently double-teamed. His on-field presence is matched by his impressive endurance, playing a remarkable 84% of snaps this season.
“He’s a 325-pound man that moves like he’s 260, 265,” said Eagles defensive line coach Clint Hurtt. “His agility and change of direction are unparalleled for someone of his size.”
Carter’s duality is reflected in his off-the-field personality as well; he is known as one of the friendliest players in the locker room.
“He’s a highly intelligent young man – both on and off the field,” Hurtt added. “He might not say much initially, but he’s quite engaging once you get to know him.”
The upcoming Super Bowl could be a pivotal moment for Carter, who was on his way to the NFL Draft when these teams last fought for the Lombardi Trophy. If he performs well, it wouldn’t be surprising.
“He’s more about power and drive. He’s a dominant type of guy,” stated Jones. “His gameplay mirrors that of a younger Fletcher Cox.”
Carter could be the key that leads the Eagles to victory.
