Napheesa Collier Injury Update: Lynx Star Likely to Play Against Fever

Napheesa Collier is expected to return to the court for the Minnesota Lynx after recovering from her ankle injury.

Minnesota Lynx star and WNBA MVP favorite Napheesa Collier has been upgraded to probable for her team’s game on Sunday against the Indiana Fever. Collier, who last played on August 2 due to a sprained right ankle, appears ready to make her comeback. She participated in pregame warm-ups on Friday before being declared out.

Collier’s injury, sustained during the Lynx’s remarkable 53-point victory over the Las Vegas Aces, has raised discussions as it occurred late in the third quarter while her team enjoyed a sizable lead. Many questioned why coach Cheryl Reeve kept Collier in the game.

“I don’t think about those things,” Reeve commented. “It’s the third quarter of a game on someone else’s floor, I don’t think the game is over. Sometimes these things happen. It’s unfortunate and I hope she’ll be okay.”

Fortunately, Collier avoided a serious injury, and the Lynx benefitted from having six days off while she recovered. Although she has missed nearly three weeks, it amounts to only seven games in total.

The Lynx hold a 5-2 record without Collier, still leading the pack by 5½ games ahead of the Atlanta Dream for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

In terms of individual accolades, her return plays a significant role in the MVP race. Prior to her injury, Collier was a strong candidate for the MVP title, but A’ja Wilson has been gaining momentum in the contest with her impressive gameplay leading the Aces to a 10-game winning streak.

As it stands, Collier is the betting favorite at -220 according to Caesars Sportsbook. She is averaging a leading 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.6 blocks, boasting impressive shooting percentages.
