Seahawks Coach Mike Macdonald Plans for Backup QB Jalen Milroe's Role

The Seattle Seahawks are strategizing to incorporate rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe into specific game packages, as stated by Coach Mike Macdonald.

Seattle Seahawks rookie Jalen Milroe enters the 2025 season as a third-string quarterback behind Sam Darnold and Drew Lock. However, Coach Mike Macdonald has stated that they have plans to get the former Alabama quarterback on the field in specific situations.

Milroe, the No. 92 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, may see action early in his rookie season through various game packages, and he offers a distinctive presence during practices by serving as the scout team quarterback.

“We will include plays for Jalen in our game plans, and he will practice those with the first team,” Macdonald said. “The way we develop the package for him in games will require those practice reps, both in walkthroughs and at full speed. That’s going to be crucial.”

Milroe played in all three of Seattle’s preseason games, completing 22 of 39 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown. In the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers, Milroe started and tallied 148 passing yards.

The Seahawks are set to kick off their 2025 season against the San Francisco 49ers on September 7.
