Former NFL Star Shaq Mason Arrested on Domestic Assault Charges

The ex-Patriots guard faces serious legal issues following an arrest in Tennessee.

Two-time Super Bowl champion Shaq Mason, who previously played for the New England Patriots, was arrested Wednesday morning in Franklin, Tennessee, following an alleged domestic assault incident. According to the Franklin Police Department, Mason, 31, is facing charges including aggravated assault and harassment.

The police report states that the incident took place at a residence early Wednesday morning. Mason was later apprehended during a traffic stop, with his bail set at $150,000. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was still in custody.

Mason was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft and became a significant player on the offensive line, starting in 98 out of 103 regular season games. He was part of the Patriots’ championship teams in Super Bowls LI and LIII.

After seven seasons in New England, Mason was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022, reuniting with quarterback Tom Brady. He moved to the Houston Texans following that season.

In 2024, Mason started 15 games for the Texans and was tied for the league lead in sacks allowed by a guard. The Texans released him in March. A Columbia, Tennessee native, Mason played high school football at Columbia Central High School and attended Georgia Tech, where he started 39 of 41 games from 2012 to 2014, earning first-team All-ACC honors in 2013.

In June, Mason was included in the Georgia Tech Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
