Micah Parsons Faces Hard Reality After Trade from Cowboys, Now Aims to Prove Packers Right

The former Dallas linebacker reflects on his unexpected move to Green Bay amid contract tensions.

Micah Parsons, still reeling from his move from the Dallas Cowboys, expressed his surprise at being traded during a press conference with the Green Bay Packers. Having initially asked for a trade due to a contract dispute with team owner Jerry Jones, Parsons described the preceding months as some of the hardest in his life. “I didn’t think I would be traded, but that’s the harsh reality,” he stated.

Now, Parsons, who holds the title of the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback, is eager to help the Packers, a team with high playoff aspirations, as their main defensive asset.

He acknowledged the expectations that come with his new role, stating, “I’d be a fool to not acknowledge the pressure in this position. However, it is a blessing, as it indicates their belief in my capabilities.”

The Packers, having made the playoffs in five of the last six seasons, are positioned to challenge for the title. “I want to win and motivate these guys to show that this organization made the right choice in picking me,” Parsons added.

At his first press conference, he shared that he learned about the trade from his agent, David Mulugheta, and had no conversation with the Cowboys’ leadership prior to the decision. Jerry Jones later commented that there were no hard feelings regarding the trade.

Parsons remarked, “I feel fortunate to have been chosen by a storied team like the Packers. I’m now prepared to suit up and contribute to this great history.”

After a recent back injury, Parsons affirmed his readiness for the upcoming season opener against the Detroit Lions.
