Since taking the helm of the US Men’s National Team last September, Mauricio Pochettino has immersed himself in American sports culture. This past Saturday, he experienced a significant moment during his debut on the Big Noon Kickoff show before the Ohio State vs. Texas football game, a rivalry that stands out in both college sports and American culture.
“I’m so excited to be here,” Pochettino exclaimed.
His involvement in the Big Noon Kickoff event might serve as a model for how the US Men’s National Team can create a comparable atmosphere as they prepare for their opening match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on home turf in just 286 days.
“The most important thing is to arrive in very good condition and be competitive, and that these guys feel proud about the team like they are today,” he noted regarding the upcoming 48-team tournament. “It’s very exciting. It’s going to be an unbelievable event, and it’s going to be key to the future of soccer in the USA.”
Before exiting to join the enthusiastic fans in Columbus, Pochettino led an ‘OH-IO’ chant, energizing the crowd.
However, one hopes that the Texas Longhorns fans interpret this as neutrality in the fierce rivalry.
