Trevon Diggs Sees 75-80% Chance of Playing in Week 1 Against Eagles

Dallas Cowboys' Trevon Diggs expresses optimism about his availability for the season opener despite earlier concerns over his knee injury.

Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs Feels He Has an Estimated 75-80% Chance to Compete in Week 1 Against the Eagles

FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus declined to comment on cornerback Trevon Diggs’ availability for Thursday’s battle against the reigning Super Bowl LIX champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.

“I really don’t have a comment about [Trevon] Diggs right now regarding his playtime and all that,” Eberflus mentioned on Monday. “We are still assessing his situation, but he has appeared promising thus far. We’ll see where that leads.”

Diggs, who practiced fully on Monday, expressed a more straightforward perspective on his potential playing time after practice, stating he has a “75-80 percent” chance to take part in the opening game of the 2025 NFL season.

The 26-year-old player, who turns 27 on September 20, played in 11 games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury during a “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14. He had previously undergone chondral tissue graft surgery on his knee in January, making it two years in a row encountering knee injuries after tearing his ACL during practice in Week 3 of the 2023 season.

Currently, Diggs has been focusing on building his conditioning by participating in scout team reps against fellow teammates: three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott, All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb, and promising wideout George Pickens. He noted that these practices are beneficial and mentioned, “I did everything today [at practice]. I did a lot of scout team reps too. I’m getting more conditioning, so Thursday may be looking good.”

In the event of Diggs’ readiness, he would likely line up opposite Buffalo Bills’ Kaiir Elam at outside corner, allowing DaRon Bland to transition inside to the nickel role he executed during his rookie year in 2022. Should Diggs unable to clear in time for Thursday, Bland and Elam would serve as the external corners, while Reddy Steward or undrafted rookie Zion Childress may step up in the nickel position.

In the words of Eberflus, “we’ll see where that is” as the game day approaches.
