Matt Chapman Faces Suspension, Others Fined Amid Giants-Rockies Brawl After Devers' Home Run

A brawl erupted during a game between the Giants and Rockies, leading to suspensions and fines for several players.

In a heated match on September 3, 2025, the MLB has handed out a game suspension to Giants third baseman Matt Chapman and has also fined teammates Willy Adames and Rafael Devers, along with Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland, due to their involvement in a benches-clearing brawl. The clash erupted shortly after Devers hit a two-run homer, prompting Freeland to express his displeasure, leading to a confrontation that escalated quickly.

The situation unfolded just two batters into the game, resulting in three ejections. Freeland retaliated verbally after Devers admired his home run for too long in his opinion.

Interestingly, Devers was able to complete his home run trot after the initial chaos had calmed down. Prior to this game, he was performing exceptionally well, batting .522 over his last six games, with four home runs and 10 RBIs.

The Giants approached this contest having secured victories in eight of their last nine games, striving to enhance their position within playoff contention.
