Amanda Anisimova has defied expectations by defeating No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals of the US Open on Wednesday. This victory comes as a significant rebound for Anisimova following her disappointing performance at Wimbledon earlier this year, where Swiatek had triumphed over her in straight sets, dominating the match.
The match began with Swiatek quickly breaking Anisimova’s serve, but instead of succumbing to the pressure, Anisimova fought back to take the first set 6-4. Swiatek’s visible frustration continued into the second set, where Anisimova capitalized on her opponent’s struggles, ultimately winning the set 6-3.

With her victory, Anisimova has now advanced to face either Karolina Muchova or Naomi Osaka in the semifinals scheduled for Thursday.
Anisimova expressed her feelings post-match, stating, “I’ve been having the run of my life here. The first day I got here, I was like, ‘OK, let’s try and get through one round,’ This has been such a dream. To come back from Wimbledon like that is really special to me.”
In terms of statistics, Anisimova secured four breaks of serve compared to Swiatek’s two, posting a 29-23 edge in points won on the opponent’s serve. Additionally, she successfully converted 56% of her second serves, significantly outperforming Swiatek, who managed only 37% on hers.
