Florida Defensive Lineman Ejected After Spitting Leads to Upset Loss Against South Florida

In a dramatic finish, Florida's Brendan Bett was ejected after a spitting incident that aided South Florida's game-winning drive.

Florida defensive lineman Brendan Bett was ejected during the fourth quarter of an 18-16 loss to South Florida Saturday after spitting on Bulls offensive lineman Cole Skinner. The incident contributed to South Florida’s drive towards a game-winning field goal.

The unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Bett was significant, giving South Florida an automatic first down and advancing them to the USF 39-yard line. Earlier plays had already allowed the Bulls to gain ground after starting on their own 11-yard line.

Following this incident, the Bulls quickly secured a 29-yard completion, setting up kicker Nico Gramatica to make a crucial 20-yard field goal, clinching the upset against the ranked Gators.

This loss leaves Florida’s record at 1-1, with coach Billy Napier now standing at 20-20 overall in his fourth season. The Gators are set to face tough opponents in their upcoming road games against No. 3 LSU and No. 5 Miami, followed by a matchup against No. 7 Texas and a visit to No. 19 Texas A&M.

Bett, who transferred from Baylor, made his season debut against LIU, registering three tackles in that game.
