Sky Coach Discusses Angel Reese's Absence After Suspension Against the Aces
Chicago Sky player Angel Reese missed the entire game against the Las Vegas Aces due to a back injury following a suspension for her comments about the team's dynamics.
Angel Reese, a key player for the Chicago Sky, was suspended for the first half of the game against the Las Vegas Aces due to comments deemed detrimental to the team. However, she did not return for the rest of the match because of a reported back injury, noticed by coach Tyler Marsh during warm-ups.
“She reported it to us during pre-game, and so in conjunction with the medical staff, we wanted to be as cautious as possible,” explained Marsh.
Reese had previously missed multiple games earlier this season due to back injuries but returned on August 19. Despite her eagerness to participate in the upcoming games, her status will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis due to this recent flare-up.
The situation surrounding Reese has been turbulent; just days before the suspension, she expressed critical views towards the Sky’s management in an interview, hinting at potential career moves if changes aren’t made.
“I’m not settling for the same circumstances we faced this year,” Reese stated. “We need to bring in quality players; that’s non-negotiable for me.”
Additionally, Reese’s comments about her teammate, Courtney Vandersloot, who is out with a torn ACL, have been a source of tension.
“We can’t rely on Courtney to come back at her age,” she remarked, urging the need for younger talent.
Tyler Marsh assured that the Sky will manage these internal matters privately, emphasizing the necessity for growth and improved communication moving forward.
