Hornets Cancel Sports Betting Theme Night Against Heat Amid Federal Investigation
The Charlotte Hornets have canceled a planned sports betting themed night coinciding with their game against the Miami Heat, relating to Terry Rozier's involvement in a federal gambling investigation.
The Charlotte Hornets have removed a sports betting theme night from their 2025-26 season promotional calendar, originally scheduled for March 17 against the Miami Heat. That game is set to showcase former player Terry Rozier, now with the Heat, at the Spectrum Center.
The Hornets had planned less controversial themes such as Kids Day, Breast Cancer Awareness, and Hoops for Troops. However, Rozier is linked to a federal sports betting investigation related to a game from 2023 when he was still a Hornet. Coincidentally, March 17 is also Rozier’s birthday.
According to Ira Winderman of the Orlando Sun-Sentinel, the Hornets have confirmed that the “Sports Betting” theme night will no longer take place on that date.
While Rozier played for the Hornets from 2019 to 2024, he is tied to unusual gambling activity leading up to a March 2023 game against the Pelicans, where he played only the first nine minutes before leaving with a foot injury. Authorities are investigating potential manipulation of his performance, but he has not been charged with any wrongdoing.
