Rams' Sean McVay Confirms Starting Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon Out with Clavicle Injury
The Rams are off to a victorious start this season, but have faced a setback with an injury to cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. Coach McVay expresses confidence in the team's depth to cope with this challenge.
The Los Angeles Rams have begun their season with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2021, highlighted by a 33-19 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Yet, the team faced a significant blow in the secondary.
Following the game, Rams coach Sean McVay announced that starting cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon suffered a broken clavicle during the match and will be sidelined for some time. Darious Williams stepped in as a replacement, having been a healthy scratch in Week 1.
“It’s unfortunate,” McVay shared. “It’s a big loss. I thought Darious Williams came in and made some key plays, including a pivotal breakup on third down to help us out. Emmanuel Forbes and Decobie Durant are also proving to be valuable contributors on our defense.”
Williams is set to take over Witherspoon’s position full-time and has shown readiness, making an important pass deflection late in the game against the Titans. Now in his sixth season with the Rams, Williams was previously part of the Super Bowl-winning team in 2021 and had a brief spell with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
McVay also expressed confidence in Durant and Forbes, both of whom played well in the last game. Looking ahead, the Rams will face off against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Eagles, this Sunday.
