Racing Louisville’s match against the Seattle Reign will continue this Tuesday behind closed doors following a medical incident involving midfielder Savannah DeMelo, who collapsed at halftime during Sunday’s game. DeMelo is currently stable and alert after receiving treatment on site before being transported to a local hospital.
The match was halted and is set to resume at 8 p.m. ET at Lumen Field, with no fans in attendance. The game can be viewed on Paramount+ and NWSL+.
DeMelo expressed her gratitude for the immediate actions of the medical team, stating, “I’m lucky to have my family with me while I’m waiting for test results to come back. I’m extremely thankful to our whole medical staff for the quick response. They’ve been with me every step of the way. The support from everyone has truly meant the world to me, and I’m excited to cheer on the girls this week.”
In a related statement, General Manager Caitlyn Flores Milby emphasized the priority of Savannah’s health and appreciated the swift action of both their medical personnel and the Seattle Reign’s staff. DeMelo’s medical history includes a previous event earlier in the season when she displayed symptoms of dizziness and was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
