Colts LB Backs Anthony Richardson Following Bench Decision, Points to Daniel Jones' Comeback as a Model
Zaire Franklin supports Anthony Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, after his recent demotion, citing Daniel Jones' resurgence as an example of hope for the young quarterback.
The Anthony Richardson era in Indianapolis hasn’t yet taken off for the former No. 4 overall pick, who struggled to establish himself as the starter, eventually yielding the position to Daniel Jones. This doesn’t signify the end of Richardson’s journey, according to Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin, who defended his quarterback after a rocky start to his career.
Longtime NBA guard Jeff Teague humorously suggested on the “Club 520” podcast that Richardson should consider switching to tight end to get more playing time. However, Franklin emphasized the need for patience, highlighting that many NFL stars faced similar early struggles.
“Let Baker Mayfield, let Geno Smith, let Jared Goff, let Sam Darnold, let Danny be an example that it ain’t ever over for a quarterback,” Franklin stated. “When a quarterback’s got that much talent – we ain’t doing that. He’s still a part of the squad.”
Jones, formerly of the New York Giants, has had a strong start with 588 passing yards and no interceptions, establishing himself as a key player for the Colts. With three years left on Richardson’s rookie contract, there is still time for him to develop his skills without switching teams.
