Kellen Moore Joins Saints as Head Coach Following Super Bowl Victory

The New Orleans Saints appoint Kellen Moore, the quarterback from the Eagles, as their new head coach while looking for a new defensive coordinator.

As anticipated, the New Orleans Saints have appointed Kellen Moore, the former offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, as their new head coach, following his recent Super Bowl victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. At just 36, this will be Moore’s debut as a head coach.

Now, while celebrating the championship victory, Moore must quickly gather his coaching staff in New Orleans. A critical position to fill is that of a defensive coordinator, where Brandon Staley, previously head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, is reportedly the front-runner for the job.

Staley has a background in the NFL, including serving as an assistant with the San Francisco 49ers last season. Moore and Staley worked together when Moore was with the Chargers in 2023, making their reunion quite plausible.

Staley’s career record stood at 24-24 with one playoff appearance before his dismissal in December 2023 after a heavy defeat by the Las Vegas Raiders. During Staley’s tenure in 2020, the Rams, under his guidance, had one of the top-ranked defenses, allowing minimal touchdown passes and maintaining a strong presence against both the run and the pass.

Moore takes over a Saints team that limped to a 5-12 record last season, leading to the firing of head coach Dennis Allen after a rocky start. The interim coaching duties were handled by Darren Rizzi.
