UEFA Champions League Power Rankings for 2025: Top Teams and Surprises

The opening week of the UEFA Champions League introduced plenty of unexpected results. Here are the power rankings, highlighting the key performers and surprises from the matches.

Matchday one of the league phase has come to a close, and most of the big teams took care of business, but that doesn’t mean that a few surprises weren’t sprung in Champions League play. Napoli marked their return to the competition with their captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, being red-carded in the 21st minute, which also cut Kevin De Bruyne’s return to the Etihad Stadium short. Despite Vanja Milinkovic-Savic doing everything he could, Erling Haaland eventually broke through, achieving a historic milestone by reaching 50 UCL goals in only 49 matches.

Champions League Power Rankings

Rank Team Analysis
1 Paris Saint-Germain Needing to make things harder for themselves with Bradley Barcola missing a penalty, injuries wouldn’t slow Luis Enrique’s team down as PSG look to repeat as UCL champions.
2 Real Madrid Another red card, another Real Madrid win. Without Dani Carvajal and possibly Trent Alexander-Arnold, they still managed to dominate with a potential Kylian Mbappe brace on the horizon.
3 Arsenal Mikel Arteta’s changes paid off with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard combining for two goals for a strong opening over Athletic Bilbao.
4 Barcelona Marcus Rashford scored his debut goal for the club in impressive fashion, marking a comeback for the team.
5 Liverpool Their late-game heroics continue but concerns remain about sustainability under Arne Slot.
6 Bayern Munich Harry Kane’s dual goals bring Bayern to victory against lesser opposition.
7 Manchester City A dominant display from Haaland, needing a minor assist from Napoli’s misfortune.
8 Inter Dominating Ajax yet again, Marcus Thuram shined amongst the chaos.
9 Chelsea Challenging match against Bayern showed room for growth yet again.
10 Napoli Finding it hard to perform after their early captain dismissal but staying intentions high.
