Behren Morton, the quarterback for Texas Tech, left the game against Utah after sustaining an upper body injury. His ability to return is presently uncertain.
Behren Morton, the 17th-ranked Texas Tech quarterback, was injured in the third quarter of the game against 16th-ranked Utah. He sustained an apparent upper body injury after a concerning hit while attempting to scramble during second-and-28 from his own 7-yard line. After gaining 10 yards, Morton dove headfirst, colliding with Utah linebacker Johnathan Hall, whose shoulder struck Morton’s helmet.
Morton remained on the ground briefly before being helped up by teammates and was escorted off the field by trainers. Hall received a penalty for targeting, which was lifted following a video review. Prior to the injury, Morton completed 12 out of 19 passes for 142 yards, including a connection for 73 yards with running back J’Koby Williams, who adeptly maneuvered past Utah defenders for a significant gain in the first quarter.
Now sidelined, Texas Tech will look for assistance from redshirt freshman Will Hammond, who briefly played earlier in the game when Morton suffered another hard hit. In three games this season, Hammond has amassed 200 yards and two touchdowns.
