WNBA Coaching Changes: Liberty Dismisses Sandy Brondello; Wings Part Ways with Chris Koclanes
The WNBA sees significant coaching changes as the Liberty dismisses Brondello after a championship win, while the Wings let go of Koclanes after a rough season.
The Dallas Wings have joined the list of teams making significant coaching changes this offseason by firing Chris Koclanes following a disappointing single season at 10-34. Earlier in September, the Seattle Storm dismissed their head coach Noelle Quinn, while the New York Liberty surprised many by parting ways with Sandy Brondello shortly after she led the team to their first championship.
Quinn’s departure was not unexpected, as she only managed one playoff series win since becoming head coach in 2021, amid allegations of bullying. Koclanes, who finished last in his only season, faced chants for his replacement during games. Brondello’s exit was shocking to fans due to her successful tenure which included multiple playoff appearances and a championship.
It is unlikely there will be more coaching changes before the new season, with only a handful of coaches possibly in jeopardy, including Tyler Marsh of the Chicago Sky, who also had a poor showing.
