The Philadelphia Eagles’ Tush Push play has successfully weathered scrutiny during the offseason, including discussions about potentially banning the play. With the Eagles set to face the undefeated Denver Broncos in Week 5, Broncos head coach Sean Payton voiced support for the Tush Push during the league’s offseason meetings.
The NFL required 24 owner votes to outlaw the Tush Push, but only 22 voted for it to be banned, allowing its continued use throughout the 2025 season. Payton indicated that he defends this play due to its safety compared to other options. “I was one that stood up in favor of it,” Payton remarked. “When health and safety comes into the conversation concerning it, I don’t understand why people want to criticize it.”
The Tush Push is commonly used by the Eagles in crucial short-yardage scenarios, making it a staple during their offensive plays, especially near the goal line. Payton highlighted their effective use of the play, noting that despite recent scrutiny, it remains a well-executed quarterback sneak. This play sparks significant conversation as the league prepares for another season.
