Kaulig Racing Dismisses Spotter After Collision Affects Playoff Chances for Ty Dillon

Kaulig Racing has terminated spotter Joe White following a significant accident involving Ty Dillon and William Byron during a recent race at Las Vegas, impacting Byron's playoff hopes.

NASCAR spotter Joe White confirmed on Wednesday that he has been dismissed after a significant incident involving Ty Dillon, the driver he supported, and William Byron, a playoff contender, during the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

With 31 laps remaining, Dillon, who was a lap down, was called into the pit after the lead cars had completed their stops. It is common practice for teams to inform following vehicles on the track when they are coming to pit road, an alert that can be communicated by the spotter or the driver through signals.

Dillon’s situation escalated when Byron, unaware of Dillon’s intentions to pit, collided with him, leading to both drivers retiring from the race. The aftermath has put Byron in a challenging position, leaving him 15 points behind the playoff cutline after a disappointing finish.

Quote from Byron

“I never saw him wave. I didn’t see any indication that he was pitting, and it was probably 12 to 15 laps after we had pitted, so I thought the cycle was fully over,” Byron commented.

Following the incident, White was informed of his termination as he arrived in Talladega for the upcoming race, although it was previously assumed he would remain with Kaulig Racing.

In his place, Frank Deiny Jr., who previously was spotter for A.J. Allmendinger, will step up for Dillon for the remainder of the season.
