American midfielder Rokas Pukstas transitioned to Barcelona’s academy from Sporting Kansas City in 2020. He is now making a mark at Hajduk Split in Croatia, scoring four goals in nine league appearances this season. Though he has Lithuanian ancestry, Pukstas is determined to represent the US Men’s National Team (USMNT).
Pukstas stated, > “Being a dual national, you get calls from Lithuania, but I made clear, I made it direct that I’m here to play for the USA. That’s where my heart is, so they know where my heart is, and that’s what I tell them.”
He hasn’t yet spoken to the current USMNT leadership but aims to maintain his focus on improving at his club. Training alongside club legend Ivan Rakitic has been beneficial for Pukstas, who values the insights gained from Rakitic’s experience.
Looking forward, Pukstas has the potential to gain Champions League experience that could enhance his chances of selection for the national team.
