SEC Suspends Referee After Controversial Georgia vs. Auburn Game
SEC referee Ken Williamson has been suspended following controversial officiating decisions during the Georgia vs. Auburn game.
The SEC has announced a suspension for referee Ken Williamson for the remainder of the season following a disappointing performance during the Georgia vs. Auburn match on October 11, where questionable calls sparked controversy. In the game, Williamson, serving as the crew chief, oversaw the Bulldogs’ 20-10 victory against the Tigers. Notably, one potentially erroneous call was made when Auburn’s quarterback Jackson Arnold seemed to score a touchdown only for the officials to deem it a fumble, a decision later reinforced despite video evidence suggesting otherwise.

As the Bulldogs clung to a 13-10 lead late in the game, Kirby Smart approached the sideline judge, signaling for a timeout amidst claims that Auburn players were trying to induce a false start by clapping. Despite appearing to signal for a timeout, Georgia was allowed to keep possession.
Auburn coach Hugh Freeze and Arnold both minimized the significance of the calls on the game’s outcome, but the incident undoubtedly shifted the course of the match.
