Tyler Lockett Joins Raiders After Departure from Titans, Reuniting with Former Coach and Quarterback

Tyler Lockett has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders after a brief and unsuccessful stint with the Tennessee Titans, reuniting with Geno Smith and Pete Carroll.

The Las Vegas Raiders have added a significant asset to their lineup in veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who joined the team after being let go by the Tennessee Titans. This change reunites Lockett with former quarterback Geno Smith and head coach Pete Carroll, both of whom he played with during their tenure with the Seattle Seahawks.

Lockett had a challenging tenure with the Titans, catching only 10 passes for 70 yards across his first seven games this season. After signing a one-year deal with Tennessee this offseason, he requested his release when he noticed the team’s shift in focus towards younger players, leaving him ranked fifth in targets behind rookies Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike.

Given Lockett’s established rapport with coach and quarterback, the Raiders were considered a logical fit for him, as they seek to bolster an offense currently ranked third-worst in the NFL, averaging 276.4 total yards per game, 182.7 yards passing, and generating only 13.8 points per game.

Though Lockett is not expected to single-handedly revitalize the Raiders’ struggles, his chemistry with Smith could bring much-needed stability as the team looks to recover from a disappointing season that saw them suffer a 31-0 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs last week, where they managed just 95 total yards.

Lockett leaves Seattle as one of the franchise’s all-time leading receivers, tallying 661 receptions for 8,594 yards and 61 touchdowns.
