Analysis of Week 8 NFL Blowouts: Chiefs Look to Extend Victory Margin

An overview of significant lopsided scores in Week 8 of the NFL season, highlighting a trend of double-digit wins.

In some weeks, NFL games are thrilling, coming down to the wire with tight scores and gripping finishes. We have already witnessed a few remarkable games this season, but there are also weeks full of blowouts, leading to predictably boring outcomes.

Week 8 of the 2025 season was a prime example of such weeks, marked by extreme blowouts. Here’s a recap of the scoring margins from the games this week:

  • Chargers 37, Vikings 10 (27 points)
  • Dolphins 34, Falcons 10 (24 points)
  • Jets 39, Bengals 38 (1 point)
  • Patriots 32, Browns 13 (19 points)
  • Eagles 38, Giants 20 (18 points)
  • Bills 40, Panthers 9 (31 points)
  • Ravens 30, Bears 16 (14 points)
  • Texans 26, 49ers 15 (11 points)
  • Buccaneers 23, Saints 3 (20 points)
  • Broncos 44, Cowboys 24 (20 points)
  • Colts 38, Titans 14 (24 points)
  • Packers 35, Steelers 25 (10 points)

Heading into the Commanders versus Chiefs game on Monday Night Football, 11 out of 12 games this week were concluded with double-digit margins. The average victory margin was 18.25 points, making it the eighth-highest for any week in NFL history, according to CBS Sports research.

“Week 8 has a chance to be a historically bad slate. - Only 1 game decided by 1 score; - 18.25 average margin of victory is 8th-most all time.”Mike Renner (@mikerenner_)

Many games this week showcased significant discrepancies in score, with eight games decided by 18 or more points, the highest for any week in over a decade, reminiscent of Week 8 in 2014. The only close match was the Jets-Bengals game, where the winless Jets managed a comeback from being down 15 points to edge out the Bengals.

Looking ahead, the Chiefs are heavily favored against the Commanders, who are starting backup quarterback Marcus Mariota. With the Chiefs’ offense gaining momentum and the return of Rashee Rice, the trends of blowouts could persist.
