Curaçao Achieves Historic World Cup Qualification as Smallest Nation

Curaçao has made history by becoming the smallest nation by population to qualify for the World Cup, securing a spot alongside other teams.

Curaçao secured a historic 0-0 draw against Jamaica, marking its qualification as the smallest nation by population for the World Cup. This significant achievement places them alongside fellow CONCACAF teams Panama and Haiti, who also qualified.

The team concluded the tournament undefeated, topping Group B with 12 points for their first World Cup appearance. Impressively, Curaçao achieved this milestone without their coach, Dick Advocaat, who had to return to the Netherlands due to family commitments.

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics in Curaçao, the nation’s current population stands at 156,115, making it the smallest nation to qualify, surpassing Iceland’s previous record of over 350,000 when it qualified for the 2018 tournament in Russia.
