The Cleveland Browns have decided to keep Shedeur Sanders as their starting quarterback for their Week 13 clash against the San Francisco 49ers, as reported by CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones. Sanders played a key role in the Browns’ 24-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, showcasing his potential during his starting debut.
Although Dillon Gabriel is recovering from a concussion and might reclaim the starting position soon, Sanders will have another chance to prove himself.
While coach Stefanski praised Sanders for his performance, he refrained from making a definitive statement on whether the rookie’s efforts were enough to assure his starting spot moving forward.
“I’m not going to get into that,” Stefanski noted after the game. “Obviously proud of him, proud of this offense. There are a ton of things to learn from, but I’m just going to worry about today.”
Sanders made history by becoming the first Browns quarterback since 1995 to win in his starting debut, a streak that had seen them lose 17 straight games in first starts since 1999. The upcoming games will determine whether he can maintain that success.
Stefanski stated, “I’m always going to take my time and do what’s best for the football team.”
Although Sanders is currently leading with a 1-0 record as a starter, Gabriel remains a strong contender considering his dual-threat capabilities and prior statistics.
