Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has expressed his disappointment, stating he is “really angry with the players” after the club’s 4-1 loss to PSV in the UEFA Champions League. This defeat marks their third consecutive loss and the fifth in their last seven games in all competitions.
In the latest match, Liverpool had 63.1% possession and outshot PSV 27-9, but their continued issues, such as inefficient attacking and a weak defense, have become apparent. Liverpool managed just a slight edge in expected goals over PSV, leading to yet another heavy loss in a series of unfortunate results.
The pressure is accumulating on manager Arne Slot, who hasn’t found a solution to the team’s struggles, but Carragher insists he doesn’t feel it’s time to let him go. “Liverpool’s not a sacking club,” Carragher noted on CBS Sports. He emphasized that the club tends to give managers time, particularly those who have led the team to success in the past.
Carragher believes that the underlying issues extend beyond the coaching staff. He reflected on how the team has not developed following the successes achieved under Jurgen Klopp, especially after their Champions League win in 2019. With key players like Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah not performing to their usual standards, the team’s overall performance has dipped dramatically.
In addressing the ongoing struggles, Carragher said, “I’m angry with the players,” urging Salah to reach out to his teammates to address the current situation. He pointed out the need for some players to step up as they transition into the latter stages of their careers.
Midfielder Curtis Jones echoed these sentiments, conveying a desire for the team to become more aggressive and intimidating on their home turf.
“Just be a dog out there… It’s got to be on me and the lads to turn this around and not be so nice.”

Carragher took it a step further, questioning whether certain players would meet the club’s standards moving forward, especially when some legends eventually depart.
For Liverpool, the focus will now be on regaining form and addressing the inconsistencies that have plagued them this season.
