Lego Unveils Life-Size World Cup Trophy in Partnership with FIFA

Lego announces the launch of a life-size World Cup trophy made entirely of bricks, set to debut next year.

Lego has announced the creation of a full-size World Cup soccer trophy constructed from 2,842 Lego bricks.

This announcement marks the start of Lego’s new World Cup line, set to launch in the next year.

The replica of the trophy, which was first unveiled at the 1974 World Cup, will stand at 36.8 centimeters (14 ½ inches) tall.

Unlike the original trophy, which is made of solid 18-carat gold and green malachite, the Lego version will be made of plastic, making it much lighter than the original, which weighs 6.175 kilograms (13.6 pounds).

Set to release in March for a price of $200, it will feature “a hidden scene accessible via a removable slip in the upper globe section,” according to a statement from Lego.

FIFA retains the original trophy in Zurich.

The first 48-team men’s World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will kick off on June 11.
