Chicago Bulls Set to Honor Derrick Rose by Retiring His Jersey

The Chicago Bulls announced plans to retire Derrick Rose's jersey, celebrating the impact of the former MVP on the team.

The Chicago Bulls are excited to announce the retirement of Derrick Rose’s jersey next season. Michael Reinsdorf shared the news with the Chicago native and former MVP in a personal meeting on Saturday, confirming that his No. 1 will be honored during the 2025-26 season.

Rose will be joining legends like Michael Jordan (23), Scottie Pippen (33), Jerry Sloan (4), and Bob Love (10) as one of the few Bulls players to have their numbers retired.

“Derrick is both a hometown hero and a symbol of an entire era of Bulls basketball,” stated Jerry Reinsdorf.

The announcement coincides with a celebration honoring Rose, who recently retired after a 16-season career, during the Bulls’ game against the New York Knicks. Fans can expect to see the ‘Derrick Rose Experience’ unveiled at the United Center, showcasing significant memorabilia from his career, with players from both teams wearing shooting shirts honoring the date of the event.

Drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft, Rose swiftly made his mark by becoming Rookie of the Year, an All-Star, and the youngest MVP in NBA history, securing the title at just 22 years old, before facing career-threatening injuries that hindered his performance later in his career.
