Francis Ngannou aims for a highly anticipated bout with Jon Jones, proposing the UFC’s upcoming White House card as the ideal setting. Speaking on Wednesday, Ngannou shared that his PFL contract is set to expire, aligning perfectly with the White House event, scheduled for next June. This potential fight would necessitate mending ties with Dana White, UFC’s president.
Ngannou transitioned from UFC in January 2023, surrendering the UFC heavyweight title and later joining the PFL. To date, he has only fought once in the MMA realm since that move, achieving a knockout victory over PFL heavyweight tournament champion Renan Ferreira.
“I’m getting very close to the end of my PFL contract,” Ngannou disclosed on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” He feels confident a new fight offer from the PFL will come soon.
He disclosed, “My contract with PFL ends before the UFC’s White House card.” When probed about his interest in facing Jones, Ngannou responded affirmatively, expressing, “Yes, if that could happen.”
Discussing the likelihood of a reunion with UFC at the White House, Ngannou remarked, “Confidence is low, but there’s still a chance; anything can happen.” The principal obstacle for a Ngannou versus Jones match involves their complicated relationships with Dana White, marked by public disputes over the years, particularly after their unsuccessful contract negotiations earlier in 2023.
Since leaving UFC, Ngannou has gained more ring experience in boxing than in MMA, impressively taking former unified heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury to a challenging split decision during his professional boxing debut, although his next boxing match ended in a knockout by Anthony Joshua in two rounds. Beyond Jones, Ngannou is also keen on contesting a fight with Deontay Wilder.
