Puka Nacua, a standout receiver for the Los Angeles Rams, recently stirred up a new controversy after his impressive performance in their 38-37 overtime defeat to the Seattle Seahawks. Following the game, he took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with officiating, stating, “Can you say I was wrong? Appreciate you stripes for your contribution. Lol” (Translation: “Can you admit my previous thoughts were incorrect? Thank you officials for your role in this game. Haha”) after quickly deleting the post.
In a previous live stream with popular figures like Adin Ross and N3on, Nacua commented, “The refs are the worst, because some of the rules aren’t … These guys are lawyers; they want to be on TV too, bro. Are you telling me they don’t send messages in group chats like ‘Hey! That was not pass interference, but I called it.’ They’re just regular people as well.”
Two calls in particular frustrated him: an ineligible man downfield that negated a touchdown and a controversial two-point conversion that contributed to the Seahawks’ win. Terry McAulay, a former referee now serving as an analyst, remarked that one call was incorrect, while discussing the ruling on the two-point conversion, he stated, “When a backwards pass is ruled forward and incomplete, Replay can reverse that if there’s a clear recovery,” making it clear that whether a whistle was blown has little impact on the final decision.
Despite this, Nacua had an undeniable performance, catching 12 passes for 225 yards and scoring two touchdowns, showcasing an exceptional talent.
