T.J. Watt Undergoes Lung Surgery, Out for Second Consecutive Game

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt will miss another game due to lung surgery but hopes to return for Week 17.

Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt will miss his second consecutive game after undergoing surgery to repair a partially collapsed lung while receiving treatment at the team facility. However, Mike Tomlin hasn’t dismissed the possibility of Watt returning by Week 17.

While Watt has not participated in practice this week, he has been seen at the team facility doing some “cardio,” according to Tomlin. The Steelers remain hopeful for Watt’s return during next week’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Watt was hospitalized last Wednesday due to discomfort experienced during a dry needling treatment. He is expected to participate in this season, as reported by NFL Network.

The 31-year-old Watt has seven sacks and three forced fumbles this season amid his ninth year with the Steelers, where he was drafted 30th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Previously, he was a seven-time Pro Bowler and won Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2021 after matching the league record of 22.5 sacks in a single season. Currently, he leads the Steelers’ franchise with 115 career sacks, surpassing those of his brother, future Hall of Famer JJ Watt.

“He’s had some opportunities this year and has made some plays,” Tomlin recently remarked regarding Watt’s potential substitute, rookie Jack Sawyer. Feel free to check out the full article here.
