The Atlanta Falcons have terminated coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot on Sunday, following a victory against the New Orleans Saints. This decision ends Morris’s two-year term with the team.
Fontenot’s tenure lasted five seasons, yielding a record of 37-48 and failing to secure any playoff appearances.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank expressed appreciation for both Morris and Fontenot’s efforts, stating: “I have great personal affinity for both Raheem and Terry and appreciate their hard work and dedication to the Falcons, but I believe we need new leadership in these roles moving forward.”
With Morris having led the team to back-to-back 8-9 seasons, questions loom over the quarterback position. In 2024, the Falcons signed Kirk Cousins to a lucrative contract but subsequently drafted Michael Penix Jr., and by the end of the 2025 season, the team had not improved significantly, leading to continued concerns at quarterback, particularly following Penix’s injuries.
The Falcons have also made adjustments to their roster by selecting defensive players in the recent draft, yet they still face foundational challenges as they prepare for the future.
