Spurs Eye Pochettino's Return After Coach Thomas Frank's Dismissal

Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly interested in reappointing Mauricio Pochettino as head coach following the dismissal of Thomas Frank, but they may need to wait until after the 2026 World Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur is keen on reappointing Mauricio Pochettino as head coach after the team terminated Thomas Frank’s contract. Currently, the Spurs find themselves perilously close to relegation, sitting at 16th place, only five points above now-18th place West Ham United. However, if they wish to secure Pochettino’s services, they might need to postpone that move until after the 2026 World Cup, as he is presently managing the United States men’s national team.

According to the Telegraph, there is strong support among fans for Pochettino, who previously led Spurs from 2014 to 2019, culminating in a Champions League final appearance and a strong title challenge during his tenure. During a recent match against Newcastle, fans chanted his name, indicating their desire for his return.

Despite the enthusiasm, questions remain about Pochettino’s willingness to make a comeback if Spurs fall to the Championship—a scenario that seems increasingly likely given their poor form this season. Some insiders noted that he might even “walk back to the club” if approached.

Potential Interim Solutions

In the interim, Spurs might decide to appoint an interim manager while they search for a permanent coach. Options being considered include former player Robbie Keane, who currently trains with Hungarian club Ferencvaros, or John Heitinga, who was recently staff under Frank.

Additionally, there have been discussions about bringing in Roberto De Zerbi, who has just departed from Marseille. Yet, he may not be inclined to return to management soon. Other candidates mentioned include Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola, and Marco Silva.

Future Prospects

Following Frank’s departure, Spurs issued a clear statement, highlighting that he is no longer with the club effective immediately. They acknowledged Frank’s commitment during his tenure beginning in June 2025 but stated that the diminishing results necessitated a change. Spurs have struggled significantly in 2026, without a league victory since late December.

The upcoming match against Arsenal will be crucial, as a win could substantially benefit Spurs and complicate Arsenal’s top-of-the-table position. Conversely, the sidelined Wilson Odobert, due to an ACL injury, adds more pressure to the squad’s depth ahead of this vital clash.
