Injury Scare for Canada Captain Alphonso Davies During Bayern Victory

Alphonso Davies limped off during Bayern Munich's recent match, raising concerns as Canada prepares for the World Cup.

Canada captain Alphonso Davies left the pitch with a hamstring injury during Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

The quick left back covered his face with his shirt as he exited the game early in the second half, sparking concerns regarding the severity of the injury, especially with Canada’s co-hosting of the World Cup just four months away.

Later, the club announced that Davies has a muscle tear in his right hamstring and that he “will be sidelined for the time being.”

Davies walked off the field unaided, and Bayern coach Vincent Kompany expressed initial optimism about the injury.

“It doesn’t look too bad,” said Kompany after Bayern’s 3-2 victory. “I can’t say if it’ll be two weeks or four weeks, but I believe it won’t be too long. Such events occur when players are returning from injuries. We just need to hope it’s not severe, allowing him to fully recover.”

Davies has participated in only eight Bundesliga matches this season, following a near nine-month absence due to a significant knee injury sustained while representing Canada in March. He had torn a ligament and suffered additional damage to his right knee.

The World Cup, which Canada is co-hosting with the United States and Mexico, is scheduled from June 11 to July 19.
