Scheffler's Challenge: Insights from His Struggles on the PGA Tour

Exploring Scottie Scheffler's ongoing early-season difficulties despite his impressive scoring rank.

Scottie Scheffler’s first rounds this PGA Tour season have been challenging. Despite being the world’s top player, his early struggles have been evident. He performed poorly in the early stages of the Genesis Invitational but overall managed a respectable finish alongside Jordan Spieth, who recently had his best result since June 2025.

When Scheffler finished his first 10 holes at 5 over par and needed to make an 8-foot putt just to continue, it showcased the uphill battle he faced. Yet, his resilience almost allowed him to maintain a top 10 streak, which would have been 19 tournament appearances long.

Earlier in the season, he clinched victory at the American Express, joining a distinguished group of players under 30 with at least 20 PGA Tour wins and four major championships — a short list that includes legends like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. He also narrowly missed a playoff at the WM Phoenix Open due to a rocky start, finishing just a stroke shy.

In the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he rebounded with a final round of 63, just falling short of champion Collin Morikawa. With tough competition from fellow greats, Scheffler has proven time and again just how talented he is, even when not performing at his best. As he continues down the season, he remains the favorite in all four major championships, reflecting his enduring prowess in professional golf.
